I wish Element 14 would use the DNG format so it would always be easy to create good quality backups. I have been cloning my files but I value my RAW files and a lot of the time I use Elements to ‘work on’ the RAW but I prefer to save my final work in JPEG format not RAW.

Photoshop is a really good editor. I like all the editing features and blends. I have been a Photoshop user since version 3. It’s nice to see that there are a lot of visual effects for different people. For me; I find it unnecessarily complicated. I would prefer simple and (yet) powerful editing tools and easy visual effects features. ( like filters for mages only )

Nice review but after upgrading to LR5.2 RC I think performance is better than with LR4. Working on a project with 1500 D800 NEFs my impression is that the smart previews increase speed while working in the Developer mode – in Lib. mode however everything slows because the JPEG previews are used. So far I am not sure how the Jpegs are used as previews when you have the smart previews (DNGs) available. But have to say that I am happy with 5.2 RC although I will say bye-bye to LR the day they make it part of CC.

JPEgs that are used for In Camera Preview are too large to be good with 800px in height, they have to be reduced from 640px (default window) to about 250px (i resize wiht from windows dialog box “Scale Aspect Ratio’. I think they should choose dimesions and use smart previews, in this way the images could be resized to the default size.
